Todos nós sabemos que a nossa adorada série conquistou fãs de diversas idades, diversos lugares, diversos pontos de vista e também de diversos talentos. Não é difícil encontrar diversos tipos de homenagens à série: poemas, fanfics, desenhos e também MÚSICA.
E como estamos numa coluna musical, naturalmente falaremos dela aqui. Mas não de qualquer música e sim, aquela conhecida como FAN MUSIC, ou seja, música feita por fãs em homenagem a XWP. 
É um pouco difícil conseguir informações sobre essas composições, por se tratarem de músicos em sua maioria amadores, portanto meio “anônimos” na grande rede, contudo vou tentar expor aqui um pouquinho sobre cada música.

“Wrestle With Me Xena” de Dan LaRocque e Larry

A intenção dos moços é boa, mas falta um pouco de talento. Não que sejam desafinados ou não saibam tocar, longe disso, mas a “voz-de-punk-rocker” enjoativa de Larry ( Dan é o compositor) não ajuda muito a música a nos conquistar. A letra trás traços cômicos, enredo de um adolescente cheio de hormônios encantado pela princesa guerreira e querendo emoção na vida.

“If I could be Like Xena”  de Marilyn Rucker

“Se eu pudesse ser como Xena”. Parece a trilha sonora da vida da Minya, não é? Marilyn Rucker é uma Texana conhecida principalmente por suas composições cômicas e satíricas. Ela compôs e deu voz a essa música que já foi inclusive interpretada numa Xena Con por Alexis Arquette, que interpretou Calígula na série.
Vindo de Rucker, a música não poderia ser diferente. Cheia de frases cômicas. “Se eu pudesse ser como Xena […] Eu poderia assustar meu síndico e fazer ele consertar meu chuveiro. Vamos todos ser heróis, vamos todos ter espadas, vamos todos fazer festa com centauros e beber vinho de cuias.[…] Eu poderia te derrotar em seus próprios jogos e então você se apaixonaria por mim (porque é assim que funciona na TV)”. Curiosamente a musicista tem um CD de nome “Voyeur Princess” 
A melodia também puxa para o lado cômico. Boa para divertir e a música vicia! Pense duas vezes antes de ouvir, porque as chances de seus amigos acharem que você ficou louco depois de te presenciarem cantarolando os versos “If I could be like Xena…a feisty warrior princess…” são grandes!

“Sin Trade” e “Warrior Princess”  de Sinergy

Não vou me alongar em falar sobre essas duas músicas porque o Robson já fez uma reportagem muito mais completa sobre o Sinergy há umas edições. O que se pode dizer aqui é que ambas as músicas são as mais profissionais citadas, considerando que o Sinergy é uma banda relativamente conhecida. Kimberly Goss é uma Xenite com X maiúsculo que não segura a língua ao defender Xena de críticas e recomenda a série sempre que pode. “Sin Trade”, faz referência aos episódios “Adventures in the Sin Trade I e II”, do começo da quarta temporada. “Warrior Princess” fala da história de Xena de um modo geral. As letras são ótimas… a melodia… bom, agrada quem curte metal.

A Jewel in Texas (A Tribute to Reneé O’Connor) de Chris SoundWarrior Jeffery

Música de 1998, criada por Chris Jeffery em forma de tribute para Renée O’Connor pelo aniversário dela. Não há muitas informações de quem seja Chris Jeffery, no entanto.
A música tem uma batida agradável meio dance e o cantor uma voz calma. A letra é uma homenagem muito bonita para nossa “Jóia do Texas”. Vale a pena conferir.

Theodora ‘DocCovington’ Roglev e o “Nutball Visions vol. 1” *

Por volta de 1999 uma fã alemã e seu colega de composições resolveram fazer uma homenagem a duas séries que amavam e disso surgiu o CD de fan music “Nutball Visions”. Esses dois “nutballs” eram Theodora Roglev e Freddi ‘Soundsleeper’ Khol, viciados nas séries Xena – Warrior Princess e Buffy – The Vampire Slayer, e donos de muito talento.
Abaixo, segue as composições que eles fizeram em homenagem a Xena. Infelizmente não consegui a letra de todas, e tirar de ouvido fica um pouco complicado, então vou ficar devendo algumas.

A Jewel in Texas

Sim, é a mesma música criada por Chris Jeffery, contudo com um arranjo muito diferente da anterior. Enquanto a versão de Jeffery tinha uma batida meio dance e ritmo rápido, essa versão é acústica, mais lenta e adequada à voz grave de Theodora. Não há mudança alguma na letra.

Fever

Fever é uma música originalmente pertencente a Peggy Lee, sucesso dos anos 60. A versão de Theodora, ao contrário da original, é tocada somente no baixo e tem algumas mudanças na letra. Pessoalmente acho a versão “Xenite” mais interessante, não somente por causa da letra, mas a voz de Theodora tem uma potência incrível e consegue dar mais sensualidade para a música. Na música original a estrofe que fala de Xena e Gabrielle aqui, falava de Capitão Smith e Pocahontas. “Captain smith and Pocahontas, had a very mad affair / When her daddy tried to kill him / She said daddy oh don’t you dare”.

Ides of March

Obviamente baseada no episódio de mesmo nome, do final da quarta temporada. A música de melodia lenta é meio como uma baladinha romântica de tom e letra extremamente melancólicos, mas sem deixar de serem belos e muito bem executados na voz poderosa de Roglev. Linhas como “Eu queria poder ter te salvado, mas agora chegou o momento de dizer nosso último adeus” trazem pra composição toda a tristeza que o episódio inspira, pelo ponto de vista de Xena.

Joxer The Mighty (Alternate Version)

Uma paródia da “Balada de Joxer o Poderoso” composta por Joe LoDuca. Uma versão cômica que a cantora chama de “os versos perdidos da música do Joxer”, tocada na guitarra e no bandolim. De “master of geography”, Joxer aqui se transforma em “master jerk of comedy”. Divertida, sem dúvida. Infelizmente a letra não está disponível.

Doc’s Boogie

Até pelo apelido de “DocCovington” já é possível saber que Theodora Roglev é grande fã do episódio The Xena Scrolls, em especial da personagem Janice Covington.  Música de melodia um pouco exótica, misturando guitarra, bandolim, um instrumento chamado Arghul  e efeitos computadorizados de bateria, é provavelmente a música mais “subtextual” da compositora. É como seria a visão que Janice Covington tem de Melinda Pappas, cheia de tensão sexual por sinal. Com linhas como “I’d like to taste your body from your toes up to your head, stop playing shy Melinda, I’ll teach sweet sweet things, oh baby if you let me, I’ll make you fly away.”, é altamente recomendada aos subtexters de plantão. Theo esbanja sensualidade na música numa mistura de rouquidão proposital, gemidos e até um “war cry” no final. Infelizmente a letra também não está disponível, mas vale a pena conferir.

Bom, as composições Xenites de Theo Roglev das quais tive acesso são essas, mas existe também as Buffy Musics também, das quais não falarei aqui, mas garanto que vale muito a pena conferir!

 

“Xena & Gabrielle” de Mustang

Agora imaginem um grupo de grandalhões tatuados e cabeludos berrando um hard rock estilo anos 80 com as linhas como “Não quero ficar refém dessa situação / quero levar você numa caixinha pra mim / […] Xena e Gabrielle […]Você me faz sentir alguém especial / Eu quero que você dure por toda a vida / Assim não dá / É muita gente no caminho/ Argo, Joxer, Eva, Autolycus, César, Virgil, Afrodite[…]

Pois esses são alguns versos da música “Xena & Gabrielle” do Mustang, grupo brazuca de Carlos Lopes. Pode até fazer o estilo de quem goste de uma pancadaria musical “fofa”, mas a pronúncia do sujeito não ajuda muito. É xenite. Tá perdoado.

A música é originalmente em inglês, mas infelizmente não tem a letra disponível.

Furyas

Tenho pouquíssimas informações sobre o conjunto, mas parece ser um grupo de fãs poloneses que fizeram três versões instrumentais de rock de músicas de Xena, sendo elas uma versão de Burial e duas da abertura da série. Bem amador, mas é fan music, de um jeito ou de outro.

Sara Omberg, Dj Netgyrl, Dj NastyBard

Responsáveis por uma série de Techno remixes onde são incluídas algumas falas retiradas da série, alguns deles chamados de “subtext remixes”, enquanto outros são bastante cômicos. O resultado é até interessante, pra quem gosta de música eletrônica. As músicas não têm nome específico, são apenas palavras como “Warrior”, “Crazy”,  “Ancient”, “Ming”, “Amazon” que dão uma idéia do que se tratam.
